Dear Douglas Pelmear / HP2g
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about our energy policy and the environment. It takes the passion and ideas of citizens like you to help solve the issues before us.
Last year, President Obama announced that, together, we had a choice to make. We could make investments that would jump start our economy and build the clean energy jobs of tomorrow - or we could simply let climate change continue to go unresolved. We could make investments that would allow us to export renewable energy - or we could remain dependent on foreign oil.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has included more than $80 billion in clean energy investments for projects such as low-income home weatherization, green job training programs, and deploying smart meters for homes across America. We have issued, for the first time in over a decade, the fuel economy standards for Model Year 2011 for cars and trucks which will save drivers money on gas. The Department of Energy is working to improve efficiency standards for common household appliances. We are implementing renewable energy projects that produce electricity from wind, wave, and ocean currents.
Although these issues will not be resolved overnight, we must commit ourselves to an economic future that will make America more energy independent. It is time for America to lead again.
Thank you again for writing.
